This year commemorates 48 years since the Soweto uprising of 1976. While South Africa’s history is forever marred by the violence and tragedy of that fateful day, we should not forget the goals of the brave young people involved – the goals of freedom, justice and equal access to quality education.
Their sacrifices, and those of others along the way, have paved the path for today’s youth to have vast opportunities when it comes to education, knowledge and the potential of a better future. We as a nation also look to the youth as a catalyst for change when it comes to achieving socio-economic goals such as poverty alleviation, increased literacy levels, technological advancements and financial stability. Youth are, after all, the driving force of South Africa’s and Africa’s future success.
In order for youth to succeed in such goals, they require support in various forms. This includes mentorship, financial assistance, access to training and education, opportunities for personal development and so forth.
At SAAYC, our offerings are aimed at inspiring young people to relentlessly pursue education and knowledge, which will empower them to make informed and positive contributions to society. Our focus is on meaningful achievements and lasting impacts. We provide young people with the tools and resources to transform their futures, and in turn, positively transform the futures of society as a whole.
Along with our strategic partners, we are committed to facilitating and implementing sustainable youth development solutions that benefit young people. This includes skills development, life skills training, leadership training, ICT-based education and social entrepreneurship support. We empower young people to be active and engaged citizens when it comes to shaping the future of Southern Africa. We believe in the inherent pioneering spirit of our youth, and provide a stepping stone for them to discover and embrace all they have to offer.
Our legacy is to help young people create their legacies of hope, resilience, inspiration and success. The future is bright – it’s time for us to look forward and watch the magic unfold.
Happy Youth Day 2024.
Best,
