On the 27th of April 2023, SAAYC SowetoCentre held a Freedom Day event at HectorPieterson Museum. The invitation wasextended to all the SAAYC Centres to be partof the event.

The event was conducted in honor of the 1994 battle to celebrate independence as well as to convey the history of what transpired. The tour began at the museum and proceeded down Vilakazi Street, Nelson Mandela House, Archbishop Desmond Tutu’shouse, Moema Street, Phefeni High School, and Orlando West High School Corner.

Freedom Day is celebrated annually on April 27 in honor of the major popularity-based decisions made in South Africa in 1994 and in celebration of our continued majority rule government. It’s an excellent time to think about our extraordinary. Constitution, which has a top-notch Bill of Privileges and is generally regarded as the world’s most moderate. Freedom Day recognizes our hard-won greater part controls the government.

”We must never forget the sacrifices made to bring about our country’s transition into a democracy. These freedoms did not come easily” said Mr Thulani Twala the tour guide.

Following the tour, a Reflective Dialogue -led by Lebohang Zimba – began in the museum. All attendees were asked to share their perspectives and answer questions from the tour as well as general questions about the history of 1994. It was a lively discussion with guests debating the past government and how black people were treated brutally.
