February – The Month of Love: Commemorating Self-Love, Respect, and Unity

February is known as the month of love, but have you considered the significance of self-love beyond romantic gestures?

True self-love is more than a fleeting sentiment; it is the foundation of respect for oneself and those around us. When we appreciate our worth, we tend to extend that same respect and value to others, embracing people for who they are and fostering a culture of acknowledgement and respect.

At SAAYC, diversity goes beyond just the word; it is at the heart of who we are. As a 100% BEE organisation, we proudly bring together individuals from all walks of life, from both urban and rural areas, each bringing their unique experiences, cultures, and perspectives. This rich mosaic of backgrounds strengthens our pledge toward a shared purpose: empowering the youth of Southern Africa through skills development, training, and mentorship.

Our five foundational pillars lead us in this mission, one of which focuses on youth empowerment—an essential part of shaping a better future for young people. None of this is possible without the people behind SAAYC—our employees, who personify our brand promise and mirror our vision, mission, and values in their everyday actions.

Dee Moyce, SAAYC Administration Services Manager, acknowledges that respect must first be cultivated within oneself before it can be extended outward, shares her perspective: “Respecting others starts with respecting yourself. When we recognise our worth, we set the standard for engaging with others. At SAAYC, we respect each employee’s different stories and backgrounds, knowing that our strength lies in our common purpose. This February, let’s celebrate love and the values that define us as an organisation—respect, diversity, and empowerment.”

This month serves as a reminder that love is not only about what we give to others but also about how we nurture love within ourselves. By respecting who we are, we co-create spaces for meaningful conversations, stronger connections, a more powerful team, and a deeper commitment to our shared purpose.
